McCamy Development has added a 1,300-square foot LiveRoof brand green roof to its new building located at 6450 Kingston Pike in Knoxville, installed by Dixie Roofing (LaFollette, Tenn.).

“The green roof is designed as a rooftop garden with a panoramic view of Mount LeConte and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park,” said George A. Ewart, AIA, principal-in-charge, George Armour Ewart Architecture (Knoxville, Tenn.), the building’s architect. “It offers a natural setting to enhance enjoyment of the view towards the mountains.”

“We recommended LiveRoof because it is the green roof system that is full-grown at the time of installation. That imparts immediate beauty and reduces long-term maintenance,” said John Wisinger, landscape designer, Hedstrom Design, LLC (Knoxville, Tenn.), the landscape architecture firm designing the green roof. “In addition, the plants were cultivated right here in our own region.”

“Green roofs provide green space as an architectural amenity and offer other significant benefits,” said Bruce Bosse, president, Merit Construction, Inc. “Green roofs extend the service life of a building’s roof, moderate stormwater runoff, and reduce energy demand and costs (especially for air conditioning in the summertime).”
