This month, we’re highlighting two projects from LiveRoof® Texas. Both are on office amenity decks, and both are intended to better connect the natural world with the constructed environment. Studies have shown that exposure to nature brings psychological and physical benefits, that even brief exposure is mentally and physically restorative. Natural views also lead to greater concentration and productivity and reduced workplace absenteeism.
600 Congress (Austin, TX)
The first is 600 Congress, the visionary for this 610 sq. ft. project was Blacksmith Collaborative.
A unique characteristic of the 600 Congress project is the 4’ planters which were welded in place and contain metal framing that holds the LiveRoof® modules. |

Perkins & Will (Houston, TX)
The visionary for the Perkins & Will project is landscape architect Clark Condon. When asked why he decided to install a LiveRoof® his reply was, “We decided to specify LiveRoof® because we were working with an existing building and wanted to incorporate planting on the roof deck. Naturally with renovation projects, we were constrained on how we could do this. Being limited with the depth of the roof deck, windows that looked out on to it, and limited ways to get up 19 floors in an old 1900’s building, we chose the LiveRoof® Maxx system. Its low profile allowed for planting at the base of the window but still allows for natural light to come in. The decorative metal edging gave us a clean finish on the roof deck side to hide the containers. The compact size allowed us to transport the plants up 19 floors and install very quickly. Last of all it provided the roof deck with instant impact, which was a huge added bonus for the client.”
